A retired Naval Officer and Educator with over 28 years of success in the military and post secondary education – with emphasis in engineering, education, career and technical education (CTE). In June 2018, Mr. Rendon retired from the District of Columbia Public School System (Washington, DC) where he served as the Department Chair, Career and Technical Education (CTE) at Francis L. Cardozo Education Campus and Program Manager/Curriculum Developer/Lead Instructor Electro-Mechanical Training Program (EMTTP) for Cardozo’s nationally recognized TranStem Transportation Academy.
During his 8-year tenure at Cardozo, he enhanced and managed a rigorous electro-mechanical training program that reflected both theoretical and practical applications necessary for success in a wide variety of industries; introduced “student-technician” certification in both electronics and mechanical systems through the International Society of Certified Electronics Technicians (ISCET) and the International Fluid Power Society (IFPS); introduced and managed training programs for Electric Light Rail Vehicle (ELRV) technology and industrial electronic controls; served as a member of the Academic Leadership Team; and oversaw three (3) Programs of Study under the Charles D. Perkins Grant ensuring compliance with all eligibility requirements.
Highlights of his distinguished 20 year military career include: Project Officer/Senior Naval Engineering Assessor/Senior Administrative Trainer (Norfolk, Virginia); Marine Regimental Combat Team, Counter Explosive Device Officer (Fallujah, Iraq); Surface Warfare Officer/Department Head & Chief Engineer (San Diego, CA) – overhauled engineering training program, updated and developed over 100 lessons plans on 30 engineering systems, introduced vocational cross training, developed and implemented a robust junior officer mentoring program; Master Training Specialist/Naval Aviation Maintenance Training Group (San Diego, CA), Enlisted Aviation Support Equipment Technician Mechanical/Hydraulic/Electrical (Bremerton, Washington).
